If you're planning to go camping at Inskip
Peninsula, I've got some great news for you! There are two amazing options to
choose from - you can set up camp with a breathtaking ocean view of Double
Island Point or pick a more sheltered spot amongst the red ash and sheoaks
surrounding the area. There are plenty of activities to keep you entertained
such as fishing, walking, and driving around the recreation area and marine
park.
Fun fact for you! The names of six camping areas on the Inskip Peninsula are named after past shipping history. One of them is called S.S. Dorrigo, which is named after a tragic event. On Good Friday, April 2, 1926, the steamer S.S. Dorrigo was on its way from Brisbane to Thursday Island when it sank in heavy seas several kilometres off Double Island Point. Although the captain and his son were rescued, unfortunately, 21 crew members disappeared without a trace. The body of the bo'sun was found on K'gari (formerly Fraser Island).
