Cobb and Campground

Cobb & Co Nine Mile Camping Grounds is a historic location located on 50 acres of lush land by Six Mile Creek, just south of Gympie. This site was once the old Cobb and Co Horse Change Stables, which served as the first stop on the stagecoach run from Gympie to Noosa back in 1878. On arrival, you will find 50 acres of flat, grassy space for camping, with enough room for everyone to camp without being crowded. All camping areas are unpowered, with no marked-out sites or concrete slabs. You can choose where to camp when you arrive. Campfires are allowed in all camping areas, and you can buy firewood from reception or bring your own. However, chainsaws are not permitted on the camping grounds.

You can learn the tales of tough pioneers, railroad navies, drunken miners, bushrangers, hidden gold, and skilful stagecoach drivers with their dry humour that helped forge this land in the late 1800s. At the creek, you can also see the remains of the old bridge that serviced the bullock teams, railroad workers, bridge builders, and where the train passengers disembarked to catch the stagecoach to Noosa and then by steamship (The Gulgoa) to Brisbane. Additionally, the site of Queensland’s worst train derailment, the Rocky Mail Train disaster, where 10 people lost their lives in 1925, is located nearby.
