DAM CRAZY!!!!! You would have to be to bypass over 620 acres of scenic bushlands and amazing birdlife, over 103 different species found so far, including a powerful Owl. A magnificent 400 mega litre damthat nows forms part of the natural landscapeof this unique property. Bookings can only be made Via Hipcamp. Pet Friendley and Camp Fires Allowed

I first came accross this place on Wikicamps some 5 months back, thought we must check it out some time, as the photos look amazing on the page, but we have been fooled quiet a few times before.

The opportunity came up, as Ian and Jeannette had only taken delivery of the vame a few weeks prior, and you have to give it a test ride some time, SO off we went.....

As soon as we entered the property, we just new we had fouind a little gem, the grounds were mancured, plenty of wide open spaces, and the Dam just looked so inviting. We made our way up to the office and we were greeted by the woners, So freindley, the gaves us the run down on the walking tracks about the dam, were the toilets, (BTW SUPER CLEAN)  They had buncles of wood for sales Bags of ice and Street Drumsticks... MY Favourite.

Probally the only downfall, is you do have to search for some level ground

They do have some kataks that are free to use, there are pool noodles in the shed which is situated on the dame, you can do catch and release.

We went for a walk around the dam, check out some of the back blocks of the property, headed back to camp, played a few rounds of quoits, and sat back and watch the sunset. Unfortunatley the day was just extremely windy, and not real pleasent for a kayak around the dam.

We have certainly rated this place, as one of our gems. Just over an hour from home, Camp fires allowed, a great swimming hole, and we can bring dogs.

The accommodation

The perfect quiet beach location for your next holiday! Our foreshore offers grassed parkland for walking, kite flying, barbecues or just enjoying the fantastic ocean and river views. Coffee shop and all amenities close by including park play area for children.Located just 15 minutes from Bundaberg's CBD, it’s a leisurely drive through productive rural farmland to this tranquil seaside haven. Great fishing, windsurfing, kite surfing and the bright white sands make our waters a wonderful place for snorkelling. The beaches are great for secluded walks and our park is a fantastic recreational area for the whole family.

Everybody knows about the Fam Bundaberg Rum Factory, but we found three other must do's whist in Bunaberg.

The Beach at Elliot HEads is one of our favourite beaches north of Hervey Bay, nice sandy beaches with generally good rolling waves, great for body surfing, relaxing, and for me the new KNEE UP PADDLE Boards, as i cant stand up yet. The other great part oabout the Bundaberg region, is there is a endless amout of bike paths for riding, and over the four days that we stayed here we did 4 bikes rides.

 

We did have four great days of weather for our first trip of 2022...

 

Chevallan Archery Park - Gympie

The accommodation

Chevallan Archery Park is located 18 km east of Gympie at Wilsons Pocket, the property is 30 acres in total area with 750 meters of Tinana Creek frontage on two boundaries. The property is mostly flat with a gentle slope to the rear and creek area. It is all mowed and landscaped and provides a perfect location for camping with easy access to all the local attractions in Gympie, the Cooloola Coast and the Sunshine Coast regions.

We absolutely love this place, and it seems like everyone who's visited over the past few weeks has enjoyed their stay as well. This weekend, we welcomed new guests Steve, Melinda, Kylie, and Wayne. Wayne even won the "Orange Cup" trophy with his first shot at the orange target. 

Melinda, who we nicknamed "Maid Marianne," also tried archery for the first time and ended up with a few bruises on her arms. She quickly learned the importance of wearing an arm guard. Dave, who was on his second visit to the park, liked it so much that he bought his own bow and arrow from the park owner, Gary.

On Sunday, some of us went biking in Gympie, while others went to Rainbow Beach for lunch. We showed Steve the spot where they make those famous videos, "I got Booged at Inskip Point."

It was an amazing day whale watching. We saw a large number of mother whales with their calves, who were active throughout the day. It wasn't exactly a mugging, but it was very close.

Our 2nd visit in as many weeks, and still not dissappointed at all.

We all arrived just on dusk on the Friday, Fiona and us from Hervey Bay,and the Rodwells from Brisbane.

A Quick set up, crank the fire up, crack open a drink, put some dinner on, and than a night of non stop laughter and stories. Its been a while since we have had the last ctach up, and the 3 of us had done our western trip, so plenty of stores to be told, Next thing we hear Kat saying its 11pm Im going to bed, and next thing it was just Dave and I left, and Midnight turned up, and I had t go....

Saturday morning, started with a Bacon and Egg Flan, 1st time Kat and done this, and if she says we having it again, I will not complain.

SO after breakfast, we wandered up to the ofice and met up with Garry, to pay for the weekend, and to arrange our Bows and Arrows, he mmet us down at the archery range to give tio give Fiona and the Rodweels some lesson, as Kat and I were experts from the last weekend...

Once again, this is just so much fun, shooting at these targets, Cats, Foxes, Deers, Straw bails.

After a hour of shotting we headed back up to camp, and than wandered off to Cooloola Berries for some lunch, not as busy here on a Saturday, as it was the previous Sunday, I think they are known for their paella Sunday sessions, and live music, If you havent been. this is another must do place.

Back up to camp after lunch, back into another sessions of Archery  until about 4pm and than wandered back to get dinner on,

Tonights dinner was a Lemon Chicken and a Sour Dough pull apart 

Folloed by Desert, which was a a 2 flaming marshmello between a Tim Tam and a Mint Slice, if you have not tried this, JUST DO IT....Sunday, we woke up to overcast and a wet morning, just a slight drizzel, which lasted until about 8:30am, before we could head on down to the arcgery field, for our final shoot.

Dave deceided we needed oranges to make this a little more interesting, late yesterday Dave took a onion down when he and Sarah went for a shoot by themselves, Sarah, came back with the winning shot, i think they used the onion for dinner.

So off we went for the Orange Arhcery Cahaalenge Championships. 2 oranges, in front of the fox.

Dave, Sarah Fiona and I were in the shoot out, Kat was resting.

We lined up the orages in front of the fox, and started shoting, I managed to score the first hit, dead centre in the middle, and I than scored the 2nd hit, just on the side of the orange, and than Fiona managed to score the third hit with a side penetration of  the orange. But we all realised that our shoooting was getting better, as we managed to get 20 arrows in the bail of hay around the fox, with out overshooting .

Serious amaounts of fun was had, Put this place on your bucket list
